The Medicine of Wonder
Emotional diseases are conditions that result in a clinically-significant disturbance of an organism's cognition, emotional regulation, and/or behavior. In humans, these conditions are usually associated with significant distress, impairment in functioning, or risk of self-harm. 1 in every 8 humans live with a mental health disorder.
The operational environment of an individual organism affects the operational environment(s) of other organism(s) that live in close proximity.
The interactions between humans and companion animals within a family-unit demonstrate these impacts and the effect of shared emotional states between mammalian species. Animals are susceptible to emotional diseases unique to their own species and are also affected by the emotional states of the humans in their family unit.
Veterinary patients, including companion animals such as cats and dogs, also display clinical signs of emotional dysregulation or emotional disease.
The number of animals affected by emotional disease is rapidly rising and threatens to overwhelm veterinary medical resources. Emotional disease in animals may be increasing in parallel to human emotional disease.
For example, canine separation anxiety jumped as high as 700% from 2020 to 2022 during the COVID19 pandemic.

Offering trauma-aware, family-unit focused veterinary consultations, Dr. Andre's Medicine of Wonder program proposes a 3-step approach to healing emotional disease in companion animals:
Dr. Andre is available for consultation on individual medical cases, to speak with members of an animal's medical care team, or to provide educational content on emerging solutions for animal emotional disease.
- Heal the fear posture
- Establish communication with start/stop behaviors
- Teach the emotion of 'curiosity' through problem-solving games

As a veterinarian, I am consistently motivated by my desire to help mammals of all species (human and animal) repair and sustain their health and wellbeing.
View Dr. Andre's bio page here. My current professional interests focus on the scientific investigation into novel and emerging medicines for trauma-induced emotional disease in animals, particularly canine post traumatic stress disorder (cPTSD). I specialize in the design of clinically-applicable medical protocols that leverage cross-species, shared emotional states and trauma-aware, family-unit focused approaches to medical problem-solving. |
Dr. Andre also provides veterinary harm reduction education to the emerging cannabis and psychedelic research, medical, and legislative ecosystems. She is currently working to develop clinically-applicable protocols for managing animal-patient exposures to psychoactive substances, and is investigating therapeutic applications for cannabis and psychedelic medicines in veterinary species.
