Emotional diseases are conditions that result in a clinically-significant disturbance of an organism's cognition, emotional regulation, and/or behavior. In humans, these conditions are associated with significant distress, impairment in functioning, or risk of self-harm. 1 in every 8 humans live with a mental health disorder.
The operational environment of an individual organism affects the operational environment(s) of other organism(s) that live in close proximity.
The interactions between humans and companion animals within a family-unit demonstrate these impacts and the effect of shared emotional states between mammalian species.
Behavioral conditions are not exclusive to humans.
Animals are susceptible to emotional diseases unique to their own species and are also affected by the emotional states of the humans in their family unit. Simultaneously, the human members of a family-unit may be significantly impacted by their animal's emotional disease. Veterinary patients display clinical signs of emotional dysregulation (emotional disease) in the form of abnormal & undesired behaviors, uncontrolled & escalating levels of anxiety, and a significant degree of disruption of their family-unit's normal functioning.

- For virtual meetings, this might involve finding a quiet space to work in, turning off your phone and other devices, and setting clear goals and objectives for the session. In addition to creating the right environment, it's important to approach an advanced work session with a clear mind and a positive attitude. This might involve engaging in relaxation techniques such as meditation or deep breathing exercises, or simply taking a few minutes to clear your mind and focus your goals prior to entering the session.
- For in-person sessions, specific goals and timelines, established priorities, and allocated resources will be considered. Expect to take breaks to recharge and maintain focus. Successful completion of Advanced Work Session goals typically require a high level of focus, attention to detail, and persistence over an extended period of time.

Learn more about Dr. Andre
As a veterinarian, I am consistently motivated by my desire to help mammals of all species (human and animal) repair and sustain their health and wellbeing. I believe that unashamed curiosity leads to unexpected and exciting discoveries. Within the exploration of each new discovery, the importance of scientific scrutiny, rigor, and precision is surpassed only by the importance of patient care, patient advocacy, and support of the patient's caregiver and family-unit.
View Dr. Andre's bio page here. My professional interests focus on novel and emerging medicines for trauma-induced emotional disease in animals, particularly canine post traumatic stress disorder (cPTSD). I specialize in the design of clinically-applicable medical protocols that leverage cross-species, shared emotional states and trauma-aware, family-unit focused approaches to medical problem-solving. |
Dr. Andre also provides veterinary harm reduction education to the emerging cannabis and psychedelic research, medical, and legislative ecosystems. She is currently developing clinically-applicable protocols for managing animal-patient exposures to psychoactive substances, and is investigating therapeutic applications for cannabis and psychedelic medicines in veterinary species.
